How to Make Training a Priority — a Wrap Up from our Webinar!

The Challenges of Implementing Training

Our VP of Sales, James Keil, covered some of the more difficult steps for implementing training. The thing about running a restaurant is that … you’re busy, and we know it! Our clients are some of the busiest people we know. Training is so hard to implement because you just don’t really have the time.

Another challenge that our clients—and other restaurant owners—face is having the right training materials. When a new client signs up with Waitrainer+, we have them send in the material they want to use. Sometimes, clients will send in awesome, up-to-date, organized materials. Other times, they won’t have anything to send in, or the material they do send are out-of-date, badly written, or just plain confusing for employees! As a restaurant owner, they might realize their training material is badly in need of an upgrade, but don’t know where to start when it comes to fixing it.

How Waitrainer+ Helps

Our webinar also featured John Cunin, one of our Content Store contributors and a general expert when it comes to restaurant management and training. He discussed what Waitrainer+ does for restaurants: that is, Waitrainer+ won’t fix your training. Waitrainer+ doesn’t implement training. You do! Waitrainer+ is just a vehicle to deliver training fast, saving you time and materials. That means, that you should approach Waitrainer+ as a tool—not as a cure.

One way to remedy the challenge of being too busy to implement new training is delegating work to employees. Often times, restaurant owners and general managers try to do everything themselves, but the busiest person in the restaurant should not be responsible for setting up, organizing and implementing a new training program! It’s just too overwhelming. Instead, delegate tasks to a select group of admins: these could be your best managers, your best servers and bartenders, or a new part-time hire.
