4 Training Myths Debunked

When it comes to training—especially in restaurants—there are a lot of myths out there. Here at Waitrainer+, we believe training is one of the most important aspects of running your restaurant, and we don’t want these myths to hold you back!

Myth: Training is Time Consuming.


Fact: Training doesn’t have to take up all your time. However, you don’t necessarily have to use a training system either—taking time to get organized (and stay organized!) will help simplify your training process. Also, remember to choose your best servers, bartenders, hosts, and back of house staff for hands-on training. Myth: You Need to Write All Your Own Training


Fact: You don’t need to write all your own training. Will developing your own training be a benefit to your restaurant? Absolutely. Do you have time to do that, while running a restaurant? Myth: Employees Don’t Care About Training


Fact: Totally wrong! Employees want to succeed at their jobs, because they want to make money. Employees want to know how to do their jobs to the best of their ability and that means training, training, and more training. Training doesn’t have to be a drag, either. Using a combination of videos, quizzes, and hands-on training will keep them engaged, as well as making sure to break up training into smaller pieces.

Myth: Training Doesn’t Matter.


Fact: It does. Really! The better your training, the better all your employees will be. That means less complaints about mistakes from the kitchen, less complaints about mistakes from Servers and Bartender, and more praise—which means more customers coming to your restaurant, better reviews on websites like Yelp and Facebook, and a better business for you! Good training also improves employee turnover rates, which means you’ll actually spend less time training, and more time getting to run your restaurant and do what you love.
