2017 is going to be a great year. We can feel it! We wanted to share a few statistics about 2015 and 2016 (we’re still waiting on official 2016 reports on the state of the restaurant industry!), to help you better plan your year.

There are lots of reasons to make 2017 your best year yet. Obviously, the number one reason being... you deserve to succeed! Your restaurant can be thriving in just a few short months. Wouldn't that be amazing?
Without further ado, here's our three reasons to make 2017 your best yet.

Ok, time to start with a bummer of a statistic: Hospital turnover was as high as 72.1% in 2015 and remained approximately the same in 2016. Turnover that high costs individual businesses as much as $100,000+ a year. What does this have to do with making 2017 your best year yet?

It’s time for the restaurant industry to take hiring, staffing, and training seriously. Hiring the best employees you can and providing high-quality training is the number 1 proven way to prevent turnover. (That and having a positive, healthy management environment and a good restaurant culture!) Waitrainer+ can help with all of those things.

Ok, one more bummer. The current economy of low gas prices and relatively lower grocery store prices means that for the first year in a long time, more people are shopping at grocery stores than going out to restaurants. More and more consumers are looking for grab-and-go restaurants and options, like fast casual chains or restaurants that offer simple to-go options. There are a few ways to take this: you can expand your business to include to-go pick up and simplified ordering (by using third party app systems and more) OR you can increase your marketing efforts, adjust your pricing, or adjust your menu (or all three) to better attract new customers.

70% of consumers use smartphones to find restaurants and then, those same consumers are likely to use their smartphones to take photos in your restaurant, post about your restaurant on social media, and leave reviews on social media. That’s a scary idea, isn’t it? By improving your training now, you can ensure that each guest receives the same high quality experience—which means those photos and reviews will be positive!
